Conference of the Community of Democracies In June 2000 more than one hundred governments committed to the democratic path gathered in Warsaw, Poland for the first Community of Democracies ministerial. The CD conference demonstrated the universality of the democratic ideal. Countries representing every region, religious and cultural tradition, and level of development, endorsed the Warsaw Declaration. The document lays out a comprehensive set of democratic principles and practices that member governments committed themselves to uphold. A parallel, non-governmental conference organized by Freedom House and the Stefan Batory Foundation brought together leading democracy thinkers and practitioners from civil society from around the world. The World Forum on Democracy was held in Warsaw simultaneous to the ministerial meeting in order to permit both formal and informal interaction between participants at the two gatherings. | Back to Top | Back to Community of Democracies | Home |
